Karaoke, Johannesburg and some Dali.

Wow, where to begin?
A lot has happened since I last posted on here, and it’ll be next to impossible to try and tell you about all of it and in chronological order.

I recall a night I was invited over to one the Jellies’s house. Before you ask about ‘The Jellies’, let me explain: Last year for by birthday party at Decodance, I invited my work colleagues {a select few, as one does!} one of which was my good friend Fehraad. He’s gay, {which in Girl Talk translates to ‘fun’ – and when it comes to him you can say FUN twice}! He brought a bunch of his gay peeps to the party. Obviously we were all bumping & grinding against each other on the dance floor, leaving in our midst an equally divided trail of laughter and envy! At one point ‘The Gays’ wandered off and danced with an attractive male {as they would} and I got a little jealous. “I’m JELLY!!!” I proclaimed at the top of my lungs, announcing it to the entire club audience. And ever since then ‘The Gays’ + I became knows as… *DRUM ROLL PLEASE* … THE JELLIES! {There is just no other made-up collective noun that would fit the bill}.

Ok so now that you’re familiar with that story, let me continue. One night I was cordially invited to Charl’s {the naughtiest Jelly of them all} house for a “braai”. As I parked my car and got out into the street, all I could hear was the blasting noise of what sounded like a wild banshee blaring through the air. Yep, it was Britney. It was so loud I could hear it all the way down the road where I’d parked. I knew where it was coming from… At this point I felt slightly anxious {her voice will do that to a person}. Let’s just say a while later we were literally all over the welcoming wooden floor, slithering like snakes and assaulting the bashful {now traumatised} chair {kind of like what Britney did to that chair in the ‘Slave’ music vid}…

Fast forward to later on in the night where we found ourselves walking into the slightly dodgy “Karaoke Club” just off Long St… {I used inverted commas here for a reason}. I’m pretty sure this little-large place acts as a rouge for a den for the Chinese Mafia. I felt like I was rein-acting a scene from a cross between Spirited Away and Kill Bill. I remember mistakenly opening the wrong door – there at a board room table sat large Chinese businessmen that looked like they meant business – other than the fact they were all singing at the top of their lungs! It was awesome! We had so much fun. The individual Karaoke rooms are very large – I would say one could fit about 20 people – and the going rates are R200 per room per hour, so if you make it there in a large group it actually turns out to be pretty cheap – so worth it!

{I should really try and post about all these memories and events more often, because one day when I’m old many of them are likely to be forgotten…}
But for now one more nightly endeavour I feel I should write about which happened a couple weeks ago: I was invited to a party & that night ended up going to about 4 clubs, 3 bars and one very interesting apartment I’ll never forget. All I’m saying for now is that I was literally kidnapped, and after being taken to a variety of many places we ended up at a very wealthy Frenchman’s apartment {not as dodgy as it sounds}. One of the other guests {he’d obviously been to *Paul’s apartment before} asked me who my favourite artist was. “Dali” I replied. He turned around and asked me to look at the framed art work splattered along the walks. Behold, there hung 20 or so original {not copies} ORIGINAL { did I say ORIGINAL?} Salvador Dali sketches among some other very well-known art works. I couldn’t believe my eyes. To be really honest, I just wish that I’d been more sober at that point, that way I would’ve been able to appreciate that moment a great deal more. By the way, this was at about 6am in the morning. I got home at 8am. Glad to say I’m definitely still young at heart! Ok that’s all I’m saying for now, might elaborate more some other time…

Here’s to being young at heart!

Take me to Rio ♥

I’m in Johannesburg visiting my family for a while… Some much needed ‘down time’. I know it sounds boring but one of my favourite things to do while here is simply relaxing on the massive leather couch in front of the tellie and doing absolutely, well, NOTHING… Bliss.
The other day whilst channel surfing I stumbled on a movie I’d been wanting to watch ever since it was released but never got around to it – RIO {I’m a huge fan of animated films!}.

I know it sounds silly, but watching this movie {accompanied by all the EUFA 2012 matches reminding me of how awesome the FIFA 2010 World Cup was} has awakened in me a very strong desire to visit Rio, Brazil. I’m totally hypnotized by the unique landscape of Rio de Janeiro {translation: ‘River of January’ – how exquisite?}, it’s so surreal – quite similar to Cape Town actually with it’s majestic ocean & mountain views. As a little girl I remember wishing I was born with Brazilian features – permanently brown sun-kissed skin, long dark flowing hair and intense hazel-brown eyes {we always wish to be things we aren’t, no?}. I’m just so drawn to the Brazilian culture & lifestyle – all the festivals & carnivals, the ‘happy’ party music, the beautiful people, the sun-worshipping beach lizards, I’m even drawn to the poverty-stricken slums and would love to experience them.

Some interesting facts about Rio de Janeiro:

- Rio De Janeiro is the third largest city in South America and the capital city of the state of Rio De Janeiro in Brazi and its population is over six million residents.
- This city produces many manufactured goods which include chemicals, pharmaceuticals, furniture, clothing and petroleum products, however tourism is this cities prime economic activity spurred by its beautiful location, temperate climate and a culture that spans over five hundred years of history.
- Rio de Janeiro is also home to more than fifty museums. Museums that are a must see in the city are the Modern Art Museum and the National Museum of Fine Arts.
- Rio is also known for one of the biggest libraries in all of Latin America, The National Library.
- Rio boasts it’s very own forest: Tijuca Forest. This is considered to be one of the largest forests in an urban area in the entire world. Inside the forest are hundreds of different animal and botanical species, many of which are endangered. The forest also contains the Cascatinha Waterfall.

SO – as a personal goal/dream/wish, I’ve decided I want to try and make a trip out there for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. How amazing would that be?!

Here’s my collection of Rio/Brazil inspiration:

My Dream Bedroom ♥

I can’t recall a time in my life when I wasn’t having a love affair with DESIGN, and Interior Design is very much a massive part of that!

As a ‘creative’ {and I use that word very loosely as I am of the thought that everyone is a creative in their own right}, it’s always been of high priority for me to be surrounded by an environment I could call my own. One that had been ‘designed’ by me. Where every object in the room had some sort of significance and relevance – big or small.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always been decorating my room and making it mine. My room was {and still is} my treasure chest, filled with memories, love, objects that intrigue and stimulate my senses, and of course – my secrets ^.~

When I was asked by Katie to take part in the Malibu/Resort Lifestyle Design Your Dream Bedroom brief, I was so happy & truly flattered and COULDN’T WAIT to get started as I felt this is the type of project that’s ‘just up my alley’!

Upon arrival at Malibu Interiors / Resort Lifestyle in De Waterkant, {let me take this very space on this page to add I honestly had NO idea this place even existed!} I immediately felt as though I’d been whisked away to another country – some sexy Mediterranean place lined with cobblestone and sunlight. I was heartily welcomed by a friendly bunch of women of all different ages – all so stylish and beautiful!  The interior of the place is just absolutely exquisite {let me not even get started on that gorgeous Plantation-style wallpaper…}! Seriously, do yourself a favour one weekend and go have a look-see. Your eyes will thank you, and I’m sure you’ll leave brimming with inspiration and ideas, just as I was.

After MY eyes thanked me {about a million times – there are just SO many beautiful things to looks at!} I sat down with fellow ‘brief-ees’ Emma Jackson of stuffbymissemmajude.com; Jessica Bonan of Lady Bonin’s Tea Parlour {honestly the best tea I’ve ever had}; Natalie Roos of Tails of a Mermaid; Victoria Tatham of kissblushandtell.com; Dawn Jorgensen of Jorgensen’s Distillery {see her blog here}; and Fran Perel of openwardrobe.co.za - all very talented & lovely ladies! First we were treated to some of Lady Bonin’s tea {infused} with some of Dawn’s gin {obviously} ^.~ !

We were then briefed by Danela Conti {the brains behind the splendour that is Resort Lifestyle} who provided us each with a bedroom floor plan layout, magazines to cut out of, fabric swatches etc. and asked us to envisage our Dream Bedrooms. I honestly could have stayed there the whole weekend doing just that. I was in my element!

mags

There were loads of magazines for us to ‘abuse’! I could go through fashion/interior mags all day extracting {and by extracting I mean violently tearing-out of!} all the pages that I like!

Currently this is what my bedroom looks like {below} so let’s see what I can come up with when there are no boundaries {such as money} ^.~

Our boards are due tomorrow and I’m so super excited to see what the other girls come up with! A true “I work best under pressure” kind of gal, I have not NEARLY completed my board yet… But I have started already and I’ve got all the elements I want, now it’s just a matter of compiling them in right way! I’ll post the end result as soon as it’s done!

Thanks Danela, Katie & the girls ♥

Every Day is a Celebration

I’m not just saying this, I really do love my life!

I always get told (and totally agree) that I’m a picture person in the truest sense of the phrase.

I’m not sure if other people are as visually stimulated by their surroundings as much as I am, but every day I find myself feeling overwhelmed by all the things I feast my eyes upon.

Here (and in no particular order) are some pictures of the things I have seen (and done) over the past couple weeks.

Have a happy weekend everyone x

Love Can Damage Your Health

And it’s all up to her
You know you’d be a fool
She’s the one gone bad
She’ll do it anyway
And take the lead and say
She won’t be gone long
You realise
Cause she’s too nice to you
And you’re too nice to her
If you don’t let each other get buried
Cause you know comes a time
When love will unwind
Somebody suffers what’s new, still you
Do you know that it’s over
Love can damage your health
And you don’t put up a fight
You don’t let each other get buried
You know there’s a time
So don’t let down your guard
Baby keep up your sheer
Cause she doesn’t care less what they say
So you know that it’s over
Love can damage your health

I brought you something close to me
And let with something new
I see through your head
You haunt my dreams
There’s nothing to do but believe
Just breathe, just breathe.
